RM - Raffinerie du Midi
On 1st April 1882, industrial pioneers Alphonse Fenaille and Charles Despeaux sought authorisation from the Prefect of the Hérault to construct a refinery for mineral oils close to Sète: the Raffinerie du Midi was born.
In 1896, the shareholding opened up to Desmarais Frères, and then the Deutsch family from the Meurthe. These three shareholders would then become respectively Esso, Total and Shell (and then Petroplus Marketing France in 2008, took over by Bolloré Energy in 2012).
Raffinerie du Midi (RM) stopped refinery trading after the first world war, but undertook development in the oil product storage industry and until then operated eight depots in Algeria and around twenty or so in France.
After the major reconstruction of the 90s, Raffinerie du Midi only has around ten or so depots, but on the strength of its experience in partnership with Dépôts de Pétrole Côtiers since the 60s, develops assistance activities in administrative and technical management.
Raffinerie du Midi now collaborates with Entrepôt Pétrolier de Mulhouse, the Société du Pipeline de la Raffinerie de Lorraine (depot of Hauconcourt), the Société des Dépôts Pétroliers de la Sarthe (depots in Le Mans and St-Gervais-en-Belin), the Groupement Pétrolier de Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, the Société de Gestion de Produits Pétroliers (depot of Gennevilliers) and, since 2015, Dépôt Pétrolier de Lorient (depots of Kergroise and Seignelay) and Entrepôt Pétrolier de Lyon.
In total, “the RM eco-system” represents 15 depots, 11 companies, close to one and a half million m³ of storage and over 12 million m³ loaded per annum.
