The consumption of oil products will fall and we need to adapt
The falling consumption of oil products imposed by the energy transition is one of the major future challenges for members of the Union des stockistes industriels (USI), as explained the Chair, Olivier Peyrin, and general delegate, Jean Thomas to the BIP.
BIP: What are the impacts of the energy transition on your activities?
Olivier Peyrin: We have worked with the DGEC (Directorate General for Energy and the Climate) to see what would be the impacts of the energy transition law for green growth (LTECV) on our activities. Consumption of road and domestic fuel will fall, with jet fuel being one of the few oil products which is expected to grow. However, this is a market of 8 Mm³: even at + 2% per year, it will not offset the fall in the diesel market which, itself, represents 40 Mm³.
We can ask the question as to the real rate at which this will take place, but the consumption of oil products is destined to fall in France in the coming years. We need to adapt. This is a major issue, over the very long term, which involves...
